ABOUT

CISFED is a Jakarta based think tank focusing on Islamic studies in finance, economics, and development. It aims to offer alternative thoughts integrating faith and science, particularly social sciences, in the above disciplines, reviving Islamic intellectual traditions in the modern world.

CISFED believes that mankind, be it in the developing or developed countries, is in need of an alternative paradigm of development, a paradigm that is more ethical, human, and just.

CISFED will produce high-quality Islamic policy research, publication, discussion, and other related activities that can provide innovative and practical policy recommendations for decision makers.

CISFED is committed to contribute in strengthening the awareness and understanding of the people on Islamic approaches in finance, economics, and development, creating references for policy makers to produce policies that can foster the economic and social welfare of the people.

Founded by young Muslim scholars and professionals from various disciplines and backgrounds, the CISFED has strength in combining classical and modern Islamic methodologies to produce high quality policy research and recommendation.

The FOUNDER

Farouk Abdullah Alwyni, CHAIRMAN

Mr. Alwyni currently is a Chairman of CISFED. He is an Islamic finance practitioner with international experience, spending eight years in a variety of professional activities at the Jeddah-based Islamic Development Bank Headquarters in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Currently, he is the Director of PT. Al-Ijarah Indonesia Finance, the first Joint-Venture Islamic Multi-Finance in Indonesia. He obtained his MA degree in economics from New York University, USA and MBA degree in International Banking & Finance from Birmingham Business School, the University of Birmingham, UK. He has published a number of articles related to finance, economics, development, and politics.

Aji Dedi Mulawarman, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Mr. Mulawarman currently is an Executive Director of CISFED and a lecturer in the graduate program in economics at the University of Brawijaya, Malang. He obtained his Ph.D in accounting from the faculty of economics at the same university. He won for three times in a row a prestigious national award in the writing of accountancy. He combines his time for social as well as business activity. Running his own several businesses, including developing an International Islamic School of Bani Hasyim in Malang, East Java.

Masyudi Muqorobin, DIRECTOR

Mr. Muqorobin currently is a director of CISFED and the Head of the program of Economics in the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. He obtained his Ph. D. in Islamic Economics from the International Islamic University Malaysia. His activity includes lecturing in a number of universities, researching in islamic economics, and facilitating workshop and dialogue on Islamic economics and finance domestically as well as internationally.

Saat Suharto, DIRECTOR

Mr. Suharto currently is a director of CISFED and the CEO of a Jakarta-based PT. BMT Holding, a growing Islamic venture capital company. Formerly is a president director of BMT Center, an association of hundreds of Indonesia’s BMT Islamic micro finance business. He is also the Chairman of TAMZIS, a micro-financing company. His long experience in developing micro-finance business in Indonesia has inspired several parties to have more attention in islamic micro business in Indonesia.

Yusuf Hidayat, DIRECTOR

Mr. Hidayat currently is a director of CISFED and lecturer at the University of Al- Azhar Indonesia. Formerly is a student activist, he was the President of the Central Board of the Islamic Association of University Students (PB-HMI) in 1999-2001. Currently, he is a Ph. D Candidate in Islamic Business Complience in State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta. He is also the Director of the Center on Economics and Technology Studies and has been involved in Islamic economic law research.

Nasyith Majidi, TRUSTEE

Mr. Majidi currently is a board of trustee member of CISFED and chairman of BRIGHT Indonesia, a Jakarta based independent economic think tank. He owns several business entities including financial, publishing, and education institutions.

Awalil Rizky, TRUSTEE

Mr. Rizky curently is a board of trustee of CISFED and Managing Director of BRIGHT Indonesia, a Jakarta based independent economic think tank. Former activist of student and social movement, and author of several economic books, including (with Nasyith Majidi) a nine series of Indonesian Economy: Undercover Economy.
